Uosei
鮨 魚誠
In Ryusen, Taito Ward, Uosei carries on three generations of warm, unpretentious neighbourhood sushi hospitality, serving affordable lunchtime chirashidon, thick-cut nigiri, and tender simmered conger eel.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
A short walk from Iriya Station towards Minowa brings you into the Ryusen streetscape, where Uosei has kept its noren curtains hung across three generations. Behind the seasoned, unhurried wooden counter, diners are welcomed by an affable taisho with decades of sushi-making experience and an upbeat okami, easing first-time guests into an immediately relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere.
At midday, the counter draws a steady lunchtime following for its reasonably priced seafood bowls and nigiri sets. A bowl of chirashidon brimming with chutoro, lean akami, kohada, and glistening salmon roe arrives alongside a warm bowl of shijimi clam soup, while classic nigiri sets come accompanied by asari clam miso soup—straightforward, deeply satisfying meals well suited to an everyday lunch.
For a more leisurely meal focused on sushi, the nigiri sets featuring generously sliced cuts like tuna and scallop are a solid choice. The parade of Edomae craftsmanship unfolds comfortably, from plump, melt-in-the-mouth anago conger eel to richly flavoured sea urchin gunkan and finely chopped negitoro.
Come evening, the tempo invites lingering over beer or sake paired with sashimi and small seasonal dishes, peppered with easy conversation with the master chef. Whether stopping by solo at the 1st-floor counter or reserving the tatami seating for a gathering with friends, Uosei offers the grounded warmth that defines a true neighbourhood sushi shop.
